Nocturno Culto on Varg Vikernes: “I don’t care what he’s like or what he does. I like his music and I have the right to like his music”

By on 7 August 2012

In the brand new issue of Terrorizer, celebrating 30 years of Metal Blade and running down 30 of their most important releases, we catch up with Darkthrone‘s Norcturno Culto and discuss politics, black metal and most of all, when we can expect a new Darkthrone record.

Speaking about last year’s controversial Terrorizer coverstar Varg Vikernes, Nocturno says: “A German journalist once told me he was shocked and horrified that we even mentioned Burzum on our albums, as a recommendation or whatever it was. I was like, ‘What the fuck? Is it not allowed to like music now? Is that what you’re telling me?’ This is fucking music.  I don’t care what he’s like or what he does. I like his music and I have the right to like his music. And that’s something I could draw my sword for; to defend my right to like music.”
