Monarch Announce UK Shows On New Year’s Eve And Day

By on 15 December 2015

Stuck for a New Year’s Eve plan this year? Why not see out 2015 with an evening of brain melting doom, courtesy of France’s Monarch and Japan’s Birushanah at The Unicorn in London? Then you can welcome 2016 in style by battling a monster hangover and watching both bands play again at Nottingham’s Stuck On A Name Studios on January 1st!

Now seven albums into their career, Monarch have perfected their distinctive sound, pairing enormous, snail paced riffs with the eerie howls and chants of vocalist Emilie Bresson. Despite being a respected entity in the doom underground for over a decade now, it wasn’t until the release of 2012’s colossal ‘Omens’ opus that the rest of the extreme metal world started to sit up and pay attention. After absurdly heavy shows at Damnation and Temples and latest album ‘Sabbracadaver’ ranking amongst their best, this band certainly are in their prime right now.

Formed by ex-Corrupted bassist Sougyo back in 2001, Birushanah have blossomed into a fascinating band in their own right. Applying traditional Japanese scales to pulverising slabs of doom to create a bizarre but crushing sound, as demonstrated on their third full-length ‘魔境 (Makyo)’, released this year via Scumzone Records. Live appearances from the band outside of Japan have become increasingly rare over the last few years, so don’t miss this chance to see them whilst you can!

Undersmile, Ghold and Torpor will be joining both bands in London on December 31st 2015, of which you can find more information about here. For more details on the Nottingham show on January 1st 2016 , click here.
