Bong To Release New Album ‘Stoner Rock’ In March

By on 21 January 2014

Hypnotic drone visionaries Bong have announced that their forthcoming album will be called ‘Stoner Rock’, and is due to be released this March through Ritual Productions.

‘Stoner Rock’ will consist of two long form movements in the classic Bong tradition. The first is named ‘Polaris’, and you can hear a short snippet of it right here, whilst the second is entitled ‘Out Of The Aeons’, a colossal piece that swells and flows into a mind frying crescendo of deep space drones and slow motion riffs.

On the subject of the album’s title, the band had this to say:

It is a tongue-in-cheek dig at our usual classification as stoner rock and what the term has come to represent. The idea is to create our own definition of ‘stoner rock’ by creating an album so utterly stoned and repetitive to be a million miles away from the usual definition.

Those who know Bong already will get both the humour and the philosophical redefinition… those who don’t know us will either get it when they listen or will never understand Bong at all.

Ritual Productions are billing this as the follow-up to 2012′s magnum opus ‘Mana Yood Sushai’, even though Bong managed to sneak an all-new, album length release underneath many people’s radars this year in the form of the Blackest Rainbow Records released ‘Idle Days On The Yann’. Seriously, go check it out if it passed you by, it’s awesome!

Bong are also playing a couple of UK shows towards the end of this month in preparation for their appearance at Roadburn Festival in April. You can find details of those below:

31st Jan 2014 – Bristol, The Crypt (Facebook Event Page)

‘Stoner Rock’ is due to be released on March 3rd via Ritual Productions.
