Part #7 of Spires‘ tour blog for Terrorizer after their show in Reading, today featuring Yorkshire Tories, assaulting the crowd and pissing in a can.

GIGS PLAYED:6
DISTANCE TRAVELLED: 686 miles
DRUNKEN ROADIES IN THE BACK OF THE CAR ENDURED: 1

Blogging one out with me Alex Jolley, bassist in Spires. Last night we had the delight of performing our brand of technical prog metal in the town of Reading. And how we performed. Fingers raced across the fretboard at lightning speed. Drums were hit in a rhythmical manner. Solos were curled out like logs of shit from a bum. There was no need to wipe afterwards. Lyrics were sung. Into a microphone. Microtonal fretless explorations were undertaken. Breathtaking. On a serious note, it was really nice to play to an enthusiastic crowd at a well attended gig, so thanks to all present.

The night started with a trio of local bands. A veritable triplet, to bring in an arbitrary musical reference, what with me being a muso. Dissenter in particular were as tight as a Yorkshire Tory, their melodic thrash heightening the risk of audience members suffering from disc prolapses in the cervical spine. From head banging of course; they didn’t assault the crowd. That would have been awful, and just wouldn’t have been cricket. So a message to all young and up and coming bands: don’t assault the crowd. Remember: lives matter. Incassum were awesome as always; old news.

There was of course the obligatory consumption of high percentage Polish lager in the Travelodge afterwards, causing giddiness in several quarters. Again, old news, but fun as always. The morning was painless, with no hangover, and the only plausible conclusion was that we were still drunk. Our roadie (aka my housemate who is on the dole and has nothing better to do) decided to perpetuate this situation by continuing to drink, and then forcing us to take frequent toileting stops by screaming from the back of the car ‘I’m going to piss in this can!’. And to add insult to injury he was rendered completely incapable of lugging gear. Utter, utter loser.

Today sees us hitting Derby Old Bell; a great venue, decent sound, always good.  We’ll be back home tomorrow before the final homecoming show in Manchester on Sunday.  More coming tomorrow!

Cheers
Al & Spires

Spires have the following dates remaining on their tour:
