I’m in the Band: Backstage Notes from the Chick in White Zombie

By on 12 May 2010

While researching Monday’s post about TPR remixing Rob Zombie tracks, I also discovered former White Zombie bassist Sean Yseult is releasing her book “I’m in the Band: Backstage Notes from the Chick in White Zombie” this autumn.

I have always been fascinated by Sean Yseult.  Not only is Sean an excellent bassist who after White Zombie disbanded went on to form surf-rock Famous Monsters; but she was also one of the few women who played in a band at that time.  The title of Sean Yseult’s book comes from the numerous incidences when Sean had explained to security that she really was in White Zombie.  There were also a number of groupies who tried to meet Sean thinking she was male.

“I’m in the Band” sounds fascinating, as it is designed in a scrapbook format, and contains all of Sean’s keepsakes and mementos from her time with White Zombie.  The book not only covers White Zombie, but the bands they toured with, including Pantera and the Ramones.  For a snapshot of life in the defining alternative-metal band White Zombie, their experiences at the start, and later rise to fame, I doubt there can be anyone better qualified than Sean herself.

When not performing or running her bar, Sean Yseult has returned to her artistic roots.  Sean has started a design line of hand-drawn graphics with her signature bold colours, where her accessories and prints are found world wide.  Ms. Yseult has also formed a collaborative art project with Louis St. Lewis which has been well received by art critics.
