The third album from the cult Swedish electro-punk group Bondage Fairies is a quirky and fun affair. They claim to be the only Nintendo-Death-Punk act from Sweden - can't say any would dispute that!
Combining 8-bit electronica with a choppy and punky slab of guitars and attitude, they're really like nothing ever heard before, or maybe will again.
Tracks like '1-0' will have you immediately bouncing around like Super Mario on fistfuls of magic mushrooms. It's basic and simple, but there's no resisting nodding along to the taunting "One, one, zero, zero..." lines, whilst tracks like 'Clone' seem musically more sophisticated, but the lyrics border on the nonsensical at times.
But that's just it, the whole band is ridiculous. They dress in crazy robot outfits, have boggling names and make music that sounds like a drunk kid has plugged a guitar into his Nintendo. This is a band that gives The Gothsicles a run for their money in the WTF stakes but it's the amount of ridiculousness that comes through the other end that is simply brilliant.
They made a music video for 'Fantasy Outfit' but there's difficulty in trying to find it - would you feel safe searching "Bondage Fairies fantasy outfit"? Probably not, although the lyrics are "I'm not impressed by your fantasy outfit".
The ten tracks present include 2 instrumentals and carry a combined running time of only 28 minutes. Enough to get you hooked to their addictive melodies, but not enough to satisfy the craving - you're left wanting more.
[4/5]
