Festival Darkend - Part 4

Inkubus Sukkubus needed no introduction as they took to the stage as headlining act for a festival that has lived up to its reputation, providing a darkened evening of dark delights, and with their recently released album ’The Goat’ forming the basis for their set. As you will have come to expect from Inkubus Sukkubus, their seemingly faultless performances are now legendary and as new song after classic resonates throughout The Old Angel, legend is reassured with the timelessly brilliant ’Jagermeister’ jostling for position alongside the title song from the new album, their classic cover of ‘Paint it Black’, 'Wytches’ and ‘Heartbeat of the Earth’ from earlier days in their twenty two year history. Candia's dominant presence on stage adds power to every song while Tony's guitar tricks offer a little incidental humour that show just how comfortable they are riding at the top of their game.
Festival Darkend filled The Old Anchor, not only with four top bands from the alternative scene, but with a strong sense that events such as these are very much part of today’s ever expanding scene. A sell out audience came together from all over the U.K to experience four classic bands, some of whom have been together for over or close to twenty years, playing together. It showcased the end of an era for one of the scene's cutting edge exponents and at the same heralded the beginning of something new for Nottingham’s rejuvenating Goth/Dark Alternative scene. As I chatted with Lemmy after the show, hints as to who will be headlining Festival Darkend in 2012 offers something just a little bit special perhaps, so watch this space.
