‘Disco Muerte Two - Death Exodus'

The second instalment in Goteki's remix quadrilogy has a lot to live up to considering the first instalment's all-star cast and the glorious centrepiece that was Apoptygma Berzerk's remix of ‘Freebird' which saw it go viral almost immediately after it‘s release. But with the likes of Ultraviolence and Peter Kovary on hand to add their spin to the material it looks set to join its sibling on MP3 players across the world.
Whereas its predecessor explored the depths of synthpop, ‘...Death Exodus' draws from the 90s as it's primary inspiration. Acid house, electro-industrial and bubblegum pop are all thrown into the mix to great effect. Hungarian pop producer Peter Kovary's take on ‘Reverse Engineer My Heart' recalls the early chart flirtations of the 90s dance scene which will ensure it's place on European dance floors, while Ultraviolence's reworking of ‘Shuriken' sounds not a million miles away from the dominant blueprint of the pre-millennium electro-industrial scene that initially spawned a certain Sneaky Bat Machine.
Goteki's own remix of - what has to be the best track on ‘Santa Muerte'... if in fact the best song they've ever produced - ‘Take Me To Your Lover' gets a subtle but upbeat glossing over to give it even more club appeal than it already possessed. Funerals however, take ‘Silent War' in a more stripped back direction that is a nice come down after the sugar high of the previous song. While Goteki once again get a bit experimental with both the remix of ‘Shoot Me Dead' and the new semi-instrumental ‘Death Exodus'.
Again Goteki show just how multifaceted a sound they can be stretched to, and by proxy the skill and talent that goes into the source material. With two more EPs in the ‘Disco Muerte' collection yet to come it boggles the mind to wonder where they will go next.
