Everyone's favourite spooky director Tim Burton is in the process of making a full length version of his 1984 short 'Frankenweenie'. The movie will be shot in stop-animation, like cult favourite Nightmare Before Christmas, but in black and white and 3D. In the original film, also black and white, a little boy's pet dog is killed in an accident and he brings him back to life accidentally creating a monster hound.
At this weekend's Disney D23 Expo behind the scenes footage of the new version was aired showing actors Winona Ryder and Martin Landau amongst others recording their character's voices as well as some limited film footage. What was shown is reported to have Burton's signature style and with long time collaborator Danny Elfman confirmed as composer the project looks even more promising.
With Burton turning 53 yesterday it seems he is looking more and more to his past for inspiration - he is currently working on 'Dark Shadows' a tribute to an influential gothic soap-opera from his formative years - and forty years ago this year Burton made his short film 'The Island of Dr.Agor' aged just 13.
'Frankenweenie' is due for release just before Halloween next year.
