Les Modules Etranges - French Coldwave That Means Business
By Cassandra on Apr 18, 2011 | In Features | 3 feedbacks »
Les Modules Etranges, the French Coldwave band, infamous for their punk-like internet ''troll antics'' and described as being an ''obscure French goth band'' have now got a record label. That punk-like behaviour was due to a record deal that fell through in a very public way and some people sat up and took note - thus lifting them out of obscurity. The dust has settled and they're now signed to Seventh Crow Records, an independant company owned by Sébastyén Defiolle. They're in the Scarlet's Remains camp and apart from saying what other band they're remotely similar to, it's easier to describe their character - bold, brave and principled as individuals and as a group.
Breakdown - Les Modules Etranges
Their first album was 'Dawn' 2009, 'Another Version' in 2010, both self-released, with 'Turmoil', their third album being released on June 1st. They're still very much a D.I.Y post punk band in the true meaning of the term and they don't take trouble lying down. With this band you can guarantee that if something's wrong - they'll come out fighting - loudly! Even though they have a record deal, they'll still have complete control after having had their fingers burnt.
Les Modules Etranges have opened for Gitane Demone in Paris, and for The Legendary Pink Dots and Cindytalk in Nantes in 2009. Their name comes from Dune, the cult film based on the Frank Herbert books and is translated as 'The Weirding Module'. The current line-up is Azia, singer and writer, (from 2007 to present), Jenn, guitar, other instruments and writing, (2007-present) and JrM, Bass (2009-present) with former members being Johnny Northridge and Alan Smithee.
The Berlin Wall Lovers, who have existed since 2009, is a rather brilliant side-project of Jenn's along with former bass player Johnny Northridge and guitar player Aurel. Both Johnny and Jenn sing and play either guitar or bass and they've published two downloadable EP's.
