Nine Inch Nails TV Series

Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails are no stranger to the realm of Hollywood. Trent’s music is currently scoring the Facebook movie Social Network by David Fincher, and previously recorded “Perfect Track” for David Lynch's Lost Highway. But did you know there are plans for Trent Reznor to create a television series?
The series will be based upon Nine Inch Nails sixth and final album, Year Zero, released in 2007. Like most releases by Nine Inch Nails, it is a concept album, and presents the listener with a dystopic view of the future. The albums meta-storyline follows a devestating nuclear war between USA and Iran, and a subsequent rise of the Bureau of Morality in America. Trent Reznor has since described Year Zero as “the soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist"
Shortly after the album’s release, Trent Reznor was interviewed by the LA Times to ask what his thoughts were on the possibility of a movie based on his album:
"It's exciting, I understand that there's a thousand hurdles before anything shows up in your TV listing [but] ... it's very much alive and incubating at the moment."
The proposed project is a joint production between HBO and BBC Worldwide. Whilst the movie may still come into existence, Trent Reznor has joined forces with Carnivale creator Daniel Knauf. Also involved are producers Lawrence Bender (Pulp Fiction) and Kevin Kelly Brown (Roswell)., with the series aiming for a two-year run.
Currently, the series is still in development, and as Trent Reznor has explained:
"It's been an interesting collaborative effort but I've learned that [television development] moves at a glacial pace. It cleared the HBO hurdle a few months ago and now we're writing drafts back and forth. It's the most exciting thing on the horizon. It's the thing that when I wake up in the morning it makes me say, 'God it would be cool if that happened.'"
Overall, this project sounds incredible, and a plot that in some ways echoes that of Jericho. In Jericho a nuclear attack on the USA sees a dramatic shift of political power and resurgence in survivalist ethics. Given Trent Reznor's dystopic visions, I feel his series will have a much darker and compelling storyline.
