Rob Zombie, in collaboration with Joey Jordison (Slipknot and Murderdolls, has released his new track "Everything is Boring". Joining Rob Zombie and Jordison is Rob Zombie stalwart John 5 on guitars, and the inestimable Piggy D on bass.
The single is currently only available through the website ARTISTdirect.com. What makes this especially exciting is that it is the first example of what we can expect from the team up of Rob Zombie and Joey Jordison. Given Joey's horror-metal background with the Murderdolls, he synchs quite well with Rob Zombie's style.
Rob Zombie explained his choice of track title in an interview:
"It's such a funny phrase, but I often end up saying, 'Jesus Christ, everything is so fucking boring. "When I'm flipping TV channels or doing anything, I find myself saying that a lot. I thought, 'Alright, I'll make a song out of it.'"
Everything is Boring will also be available on the forthcoming special edition version of Hellbilly Deluxe 2, that will be released on September 28. Including their new track, the special edition includes two more new songs "Michael" and "Devil's Hole Girls and the big Revolution" with Jordison on drums. For those wanting to know more about Rob Zombie, there will also be the Transylvania Transmissions documentary.
Having chosen his next project, Rob Zombie is also returning to Hollywood. The supernatural thriller entitled “Lords of Salem” is also the title of a previous Zombie track. Given that “House of a Thousand Corpses” is also the name of a previous Rob Zombie track as well as one of his films, this is not surprising.
Apparently, “Lords of Salem” will be produced by the team behind Paranormal Activity. The thriller is set in contemporary Salem, where the inhabitants receive a demonic visit from a 300-year old coven of witches. Zombie will write the script while on his upcoming concert tour circuit, and will shoot next year.
In a previous interview, Rob Zombie gave his thoughts on the forthcoming movie:
“I wanted to break away from anything related to preexisting material. The remake train is getting pretty tired now and when I made Halloween, everybody complained, either that it was too much like the original or too different. I like that people either love or hate what I do because it’s better than being in the middle, which means forgettable. But when you do an original premise, they take it on face value and after three years of not being able to win on Halloween, I just couldn't go through that again. What excited me most was Jason (Blum) saying, you can have total control over the script, casting and final cut. I said I’m in.”
Personally, I would have liked to have seen Rob Zombie developing his Werewolf Women of the S.S. This project was Rob Zombie's trailer contribution to the Lee Roth horror B-movie Grindhouse. The trailer was just great, and starred the incredibly gorgeous Sheri Moon-Zombie looking fetishistically domineering in a faux S.S. Uniform. My libido aside, The Lords of Salem nonetheless sounds pretty impressive, as well as being quite different to the usual Rob Zombie film. So with the creative control he has been given, it will be interesting to see what Rob can produce.
