Nightfall

I always enjoy films that take a new twist on an existing genre, rather than follow the standard tropes. Neil Marshall's Dog Soldiers is one such example, where he took the basic werewolf genre and added a group of British squaddies on patrol in the Highlands. Despite Dog Soldiers success, Hollywood seems far too concerned with repeating past glories, rather than attempting anything new. Thankfully, there are always exceptions to the rule, and Nightfall is one such exception.
According to Deadline, “Nightfall follows a man who finds out just how bad life can be behind bars when he discovers that the prison he just entered is controlled by vampires”. This sounds like an awesome idea for a film, and if they emphasise the brutality of prisons this will make for an intense cinematic experience. Given the director is James Wan, of Saw fame, I suspect this film will indeed be incredibly brutal and intense.
Frankly, I could not think of a better suited director for this movie than James Wan, given the reputation of his Saw movies. James seems equally keen to start working on, as he had this to say to Deadline:
"The minute I heard the concept, I was in. Reading the graphic novel cemented that. Like Saw, it’s a simple concept that, if executed properly, will be so cool."
The director of Saw has recently completed his work on Insidious, and is preparing to tackle his next project. Unfortunately at this moment in time there is no indication whether Nightfall or Castlevania will be Wan's next project.
