Following the success of Alice in Wonderland, Tim Burton looks set to be busy for the next few years. Not only is he directing the forthcoming Dark Shadows, Frankenweenie, and The Wizard of Oz. But it has also been announced that Tim Burton would be involved with a Monsterpocalypse movie, a film based upon Collectable Miniatures Game by Privateer Press.
Although it has confirmed in what capacity Tim Burton will be involved with Monsterpocalypse. His directing is a possibility if unlikely, as he is attached to a countless other projects at the moment. However, Tim Burton’s involvement in whatever capacity should make this film one to watch out for.
According to a Slashfilm interview with producer Roy Lee, it turns out that this film might be one of the greatest films ever made. Script-writer John August is consulting with creator Matt Wilson (also co-producer). Currently, Monsterpocalypse is set for a 2012 release date, and looks set to be made in 3D (rather than translated into 3D midway through the process, like Clash of the Titans).
The plot involves giant monsters attacking the Earth. After humanity has successfully fought back the monsters, we discover that they had burrowed underground and are sending a signal into space. Humanity therefore prepares for the impending attack by building giant robots for the coming war.
Tim Burton is already involved in developing the look of the monsters with legendar4 four times Academy Award winner Ken Ralston. The monsters are expected to be the size of a skyscraper, with the robots controlled by a crew, and we will be seeing the battles from both inside the bridge and outside.
Those tempted to dismiss Monsterpocalypse out of hand, should think twice. Tim Burton’s Mars Attack was based upon a set of trading cards, and look how cool that was!
