I am a huge Rob Zombie fan – how can you not like industrial-metal and horror films? So when The Public Record announced Rob Zombie as its next featured artist for “The Mix Massacre” remix project, I was both concerned and excited. The thought of someone remixing a Rob Zombie classic is a crime of the most high, but how cool was “Super Sexy Swinging Sounds”? The album remixed White Zombie’s previous “Astrocreep 2000”.
Having started in April 27, Rob Zombie enlisted musicians and remixers from The Public Record to remix “Mars Needs Women” and “Sick Bubblegum,” for a worldwide release.
The Public Record is a collaboration site that began as the personal pursuit of Scott Humphrey. Renowned for his work as a studio mixer and producer, Humphrey founded The Public Record to match the shifts to the web and digital recording.
Musician and director Rob Zombie is the founder of White Zombie, which he disbanded in 1998 to pursue a solo career. Rob has since migrated to directing horror films, including a reboot of the Halloween franchise.
I shall leave you with one of my favourite Rob Zombie tracks, the fantastic “Never Gonna Stop (Red Red Kroovy Mix)”. “Never Gonna Stop” is quintessential Rob Zombie, from the film references (A Clockwork Orange) to the sampling of the 1971 horror film “The Curious Dr. Humpp”, and the exquisite appearance by Sheri Moon-Zombie. As an aside “Red Red Kroovy” comes from Burgess’ novel A Clockwork Orange “where it means “red red blood”, as “krov” is Russian for blood.
