Oomph!
Zwei Schritte Vor
Columbia Records

Later this month Oomph! will release their long-awaited 11th studio album, ‘Des Wahnsinns fette Beute’, which is said to be their most experimental to date.

Until then, we are teased with ‘Zwei Schritte Vor’.  There’s something about the drum beat that makes you think of The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ a song of which their video parodies.

The track moves like a strut on a springboard, a swagger and a bounce in the glitzy melody.  It’s already divided fans into love/hate opinions of the new sound.

Of course, it’s still predominantly Oomph!, it’s just Oomph! trying desperately to shake off the Rammstein-tribute-act tag they’ve been unfairly labelled with outside of the mainland.   Look… Oomph! pre-date Rammstein.  If anything, Rammstein are an Oomph! tribute act… only with more fireworks.

B-Side ‘Such Mich Find Mich’ is like a musical hide and seek in a dark alley.  Hiding in the deep groves but constantly peering out with teasing beats and a chorus which focuses on Dero Goi’s distinctive vocals.

It’s going to take some long term fans some getting used to, but serves as a tasty teaser to the album due next week…
