Neil Gaiman writes Doctor Who episode

By on 8 June 2010

The fantasy gothic author Neil Gaiman has revealed he has written an episode of the cult sci-fi tv show Doctor Who.

Gaiman collaborated with the shows’ top script writer Steven Moffat earlier this year and his script had a read-through in April. The title of the episode, due to be filmed in August this year and aired in 2011, has not been made public  yet and few details have been released.

Moffatt, who has been responsible for many of the darker episodes of late, including vampiric stone angels and alien possesed oaps with fangs, posed with Gaiman holding a copy of the script but purposefully obscuring the title.

Author of graphic novel ‘Sandman’ and the comic which inspired ‘Coraline’, Gaiman feels at home writing for Doctor Who as he believes it is less sci-fi and more fantasy. Talking to the BBC he says “At best Doctor Who is a fairytale, with fairytale logic about this wonderful man in this big blue box who at the beginning of every story lands somewhere where there is a problem…”

Hopefully more details will come soon as the filming date draws closer,  rumours circulate that Gaiman is writing the Christmas Special, but this has been denied.
