On the Road with Ensiferum

It's not long before Ensiferum hit the UK with Amon Amarth and Children Of Bodom, so Wretched Spawnee Ann Sulaiman managed to arrive just in time to get five minutes with bassist Sami Hinkka to talk about venues, hopes for the future and the likelihood of a new album in sight!
*So April will see you back on tour in the UK, with Amon Amarth and fellow Finns Children of Bodom. How would you say that your treatment on British soil has been for you, as a band?
Sami:
I think that it's been very good! It's a pity that we haven’t had more gigs in the UK, but hopefully the Children Of Bodom tour will expose our music to a wider audience; and we will be able to come there more often.
Everything has just been great in UK for us, so far. Of course some venues are small, but that's the way it goes on our level; and anyway the smaller venues feel much more intimate!
*The last time you came here was for the Heidenfest tour with not only
Swashbuckle and Equilibrium, but all-star tribute band "Twilight of the Gods" as
support.
What was it like, to have been on the road with respected names like Alan Averill (Primordial), Blasphemer (Aura Noir, ex-Mayhem) and Patrik Lindgren (Thyrfing)?
Sami:
It was great to share the stage with those legendary gentlemen; and I really think that they did a great job in honoring Bathory and introducing such great music to a younger audience.
Overall, Heidenfest last year was awesome - the atmosphere was so relaxed for the whole tour!
*Do you have any other expectations for the Ugly World tour?
Sami:
The Ugly World tour is a great opportunity for us to reach lots of new people; so we are very excited about it! And we'll have tons of free time on that tour, so we can continue working with our new songs. For example, we did the same thing with the Amon Amarth tour in North America a few years back; and could thus compose a lot of stuff for our previous album 'From Afar' that way.
*So what's next for Ensiferum, afterwards?
Sami:
After the tour, we're going to get ready to play some Summer festivals. Then we're going to work on finalizing arrangements for the next album, before hitting the studio in Autumn. It should be out in early 2012.
*Any parting words, before the tour kicks off?
Sami:
The line-up is a very good package, so I'm sure that the crowd will have a great time. See you soon; and let's show those COB fans how to party!
