KYLESA: MANCHESTER MOHO (LIVE REVIEW)

The dingy atmosphere of Manchester’s Moho provided the perfect atmosphere for experimental black metallers Okkultokrati. The band gave a filthy performance which encapsulated everything underground music is about. Bassist Le Ghast looked genuinely possessed throughout and added to the band’s hardcore spirit. Okkultokrati proved a band to keep an eye for cave dwellers and tape traders alike.
Topping this would be difficult for the most prolific of headliners, put Kylesa aren’t your typical riff abusers. Having two drummers made their set both therapeutic and exhilarating in equal measures, while the ever shifting vocals of Laura Pleasants made each song an otherworldly experience.
A large chunk of ‘Spiral Shadow’ was aired and although not much movement happened in the crowd, the band were clearly in their element. The album’s most melodic moment ‘Don’t Look Back’ showed how far the band has come since their formation, crossing countless sub genres in their hour plus set.
Bands as dedicated to their craft as Kylesa come along rarely, so catch them while you can.
