‘Whom The Moon A Nightsong Sings’
Prophecy
‘Whom The Moon A Nightsong Sings’ is one of the most eagerly anticipated compilation albums of the year. With artwork from Fursy Teyssier, of LES DISCRETS, one of the album’s many contributing artists, it is clear to see why, before even listening to it.
A concept album, focusing on nature’s sceneries and impressions which are reflected beautifully in every track. Most impressive of the first CD is EMPYRIUM’s contribution; their first new recording in four years and unlike anything else they have ever produced it is simply beautiful. ‘Viima’ by OCTOBER FALLS also stands out, profoundly mystical with undertones of romanticism.
The second CD is graced by a rare track from ULVER, ‘Synen’, one of Norway’s most sought after tracks. British project, NHOR, are also impressive, a melodic treat for the ears, dominated by haunting piano playing.
A clearly carefully constructed and well selected compilation, there is little to fault with this album, except for the fact it can become over-melancholy in places, but this isn’t always a a bad thing.
