KRUGER @ The Unicorn, Camden

CARETAKER kickstart the gig at around 8:30pm and as if by magic, an enormous crowd forms. There is no questioning that their performance is tight, despite claims from the vocalist that they are "very much underpracticed". However, the music itself is average, and sounds much like any other band in the hardcore genre. CARETAKER's stage presence is undeniably good, but their performance fails to move people.
LATITUDES take the stage next, opening with 'Myth Cathexis' which sends shivers down the spines of every person in the room. They are earth shattering as always, but the distinct lack of microphones makes it obvious that there will be no vocals, which means they won't be playing classics such as 'Hunting Dance' - very disappointing. Instead, the crowd are treated to two new instrumental tracks, so LATITUDES are forgiven.
Headliners, KRUGER, make an appearance at around 10:00pm. They put on a performance that is nothing short of breathtaking, with the vocalist, Renaud, dominating the stage and weaving his way through the crowd for every song. It is clear to see that every crowd member has their eyes glued to him, waiting to see what he does next, while the rest of the band are happy to play along, providing background noise for his performance. He jumps on a member of the crowd's back for the final song and is carried around whilst belting out heartfelt vocals that are lovingly associated with the post-metal-noise genre.
Undoubtedly a good gig, but Latitudes are definitely the highlight of the evening.
