Message from Wendy Dio
Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever. - Wendy Dio

A Personal Memory by Miranda Yardley
When I first heard Rainbow's 'Rising', I was about 12 years old. I had a recording of a recording off a recording on a C90 cassette tape. On the other side was 'A Farewell to Kings' by Rush. This cassette tape changed my life: Rising was, and remains, a monumental album in the history of metal, indeed when Terrorizer published the Power Metal Special some years ago, Damian was quick to lay the blame for Power Metal on Rising. And rightfully so, what a record.
It would be a shame and an injustice to overlook the two other Rainbow studion albums: 'Ritchie Bloackmore's Rainbow' gave a post-Stormbringer Blackmore a new lease of life and set the template for Bach 'n' Roll, Dio penned beautiful, totally appropriate lyrics to compliment the baroque music that Blackmore created.
'Long Live Rock 'n' Roll' was Dio's last studio album with Rainbow, and what a scorcher this disc was too: the majesty of the title-track, the regicidal 'Kill the King' and 'Gates of Babylon' showcased an incredibly charismatic lyricist and singer, the album closer, 'Rainbow Eyes' a beautiful counterpoint to the powerful, orchestrated mayhem on the rest of the album.
Following this record, Dio made incredible music with Black Sabbath then later his own band. I will let someone better qualified then me write about these years.
