The latest issue of Terrorizer is all about celebrating wicked women in metal, so what better time to make Swedish old school metallers Sister Sin our band of the day? The Swedes released a Motorhead cover single with German metal queen Doro Pesch in 2011 and are putting out a new album later this year, so we caught up with frontwoman Liv Jagrell to get the full scoop on Sister Sin.
How and when did Sister Sin form?
"Dave (drums) formed the band together with a different bass player. They put out an ad in a local paper looking for a metal singer so I went to audition and got the job! This was in 2003. We laid low for a couple of years and it wasn't until 2007 that we started to take it more seriously and tried to make a career out of it."
Where does the name Sister Sin come from?
"It comes from a Swedish band, Machine Gun Kelly. They had a track called 'Sister Sin' on their first, and only, album. We liked the title a lot and thought it would fit our band and image really well."
How would you describe your music to somebody who has never heard it?
"A mix between Motorhead and Motley Crue's two first albums. A lot of hooks, gang vocals and drive. Some people call it 'Street Metal' which I think is a pretty good description."
You released your last album in 2010, what have you been doing since then?
"Touring basically. We started the touring cycle for 'True Sound of the Underground' in July 2010 supporting MSG (Michael Schenker Group) in North America and returned to do Europe for the rest of that year. 2011 we went back to the US for a three month stretch touring with various bands and also some headline dates. Think we came home in August and almost immediately jumped on another European tour as main support for U.D.O. So we've kept ourselves busy! We got off the road in mid-December and now we are writing songs for the next album. No rest for the wicked!"
You recently collaborated with Doro Pesch for a cover of Motorhead's 'Rock 'N' Roll'. What was that experience like?
"Doro and Warlock were one of my favourite bands growing up so it was really amazing to have her sing on our recording. We have done many shows with Doro in the past and she has always been very kind and cool to us in every way but for her to take the time and do something like this was really a dream come true!"
You're releasing a new album this year, what stage are you at with it?
"We are still doing pre-production and writing the last couple of songs as of now. 2011 was a really busy year for us so we weren't sure we would get the material done in time but everything's going smooth and it going turn out great! It's a bit more dark, lyric wise at least, and a bit heavier than the previous one, you might even find some Trash influences in there. The melodies and hooks has always been a key element to Sister Sin and with this album it will be stronger than ever."
