Sepultura’s Andreas Kisser recalls memories of his earliest mixtapes and the tracks that encouraged him to pick up a six-string himself.  Originally appeared in Terrorizer issue 188, September 2009.

QUEEN ‘Play The Game’  FROM ‘THE GAME’ (HOLLYWOOD 1980)

“It was the song that started one of my first cassettes I remember having. Queen, alongside with Kiss, were the beginning for me into the world of rock ‘n’ roll.”

KISS ‘Detroit Rock City’ FROM ‘ALIVE II’ (CASABLANCA 1977)

“I’d got the Kiss ‘Alive II’ album before I’d listened to the ‘Destroyer’ studio version, for me this is the best version, very energetic and you can feel the hot atmosphere of a Kiss concert.”

AC/DC  ‘Highway To Hell’  FROM ‘HIGHWAY TO HELL’ (EPIC 1979)

“This is the song that introduced me to AC/DC. Bon Scott was unique and my mix-tape cassettes always had a track from them.”

“An unique album from Judas Priest, very simple but full of hits. This song opened side B of the album, very catchy, a heavy song with a dance vibe.”

BLACK SABBATH  ‘Paranoid’  FROM ‘PARANOID’ (WARNER BROS 1971)

“The first time I heard Paranoid I was hypnotised by it, I couldn’t stop listening. I think I had to record the song more that one time on the tape so I wouldn’t have to rewind all the time.”
