The Bronx live at Guildford Boileroom
Walking out of gig clutching a new shopping bag isn’t necessarily the most obvious of things, but then again a The Bronx gig isn’t an average experience. You see, The Bronx are one of the rare breed of bands that truly create a unique world where nothing but unity and a true musical religious experience matters (oh, and perhaps some sweet, hand-printed tote bags). Tonight, The Boileroom is packed and the room is awash with punters hanging on to every note and every word that is delivered from the stage and floor. A pre-cursor to the release of ‘IV’ in February, tonight The Bronx treat Guildford to a plethora of new songs, and throw in what have become punk rock classics, to ensure tonight goes without a hitch. Newies such as ‘The Unholy Hand’,  ‘Along For The Ride’ and new single ‘Ribcage’ demonstrate the Los Angeles quintet’s continued ability to create pure punk rock genius. Opener ‘Heart Attack American’ sets the scene with riotous aplomb, when frontman Matt Caughthran joins his “brothers” in the pit for ‘Shitty Future’, the venue explodes, and with the finale of ‘Knifeman’ and ‘History’s Stranglers’, The Bronx walk of stage knowing the job has been done. Matt is a remarkable figure whose honesty and belief in his art, backed by the band’s knack to deliver perfection in a age of mediocrity reminds you just why The Bronx are still so vital. Gig of the year. Job done.
