Blogstock – S.O.P.H.I.E Stage, Day Two, Part One

By on August 11, 2012

Back to the S.O.P.H.I.E. Stage we go for day two of Bloodstock 2012!

Splintered Soul‘s cinematic metal is a promising start to proceedings, with Sally Jo’s beautiful violin work breathing life into their melancholy soundscapes. In stark contrast, London thrash types Savage Messiah blast away any remaining sleepiness, with slick melodies and soaring vocals emerging from their jagged riffs.

‘Wake up!’ cry Dripback as they launch into their set. To be honest, everyone in a fifty-mile radius is probably awake by the time they finish delivering a relentless set, their metal-edged hardcore as brutally effective as ever.

Croatia’s Infernal Tenebra are greeted by a very small crowd but garner big cheers, their roaring death metal and a cover of Kreator’s ‘Extreme Aggression’ eventually attracting an ample crowd. Fellow countrymen (and woman) Rising Dream are sweet and sour, Ines Tanceva’s split personality vocals enchanting and fearsome in equal measures, but her strengths lie mainly in her Gossow-like rasp.

Following them are Furyon, who are making their second appearance at the festival and who channel the charisma of Iron Maiden with powerful choruses and a hard rock swagger that makes for a pleasant change of pace.

Back to the frontline we go for the latter half of the day. Stay with us as we report back on Witchsorrow, Sight Of Emptiness and, of course, tonight’s headliners Orange Goblin!
