Freebase Return With New 7″

FREEBASE
‘From The Basement’
(DRY HEAVE)

A ten year absence has clearly done Freebase a world of good. Having initially split up a decade ago, the Northampton mob are back; refreshed, rejuvenated and ready for violence. With members of Stampin’ Ground and Assert filling the vacant ranks, the five piece are back to lay claim to UKHC’s throne.

‘From The Basement’ contains the band’s first new material since 2002’s ‘My Life, My Rules’, as well as re-recordings of songs from 2000’s ‘Nothing To Regret’. New songs ‘Scars (Cut From Your lies)’ and ‘Welcome To Hell’ are vicious, bone shattering slabs of hardcore. The powerful rhythm section of Ian Glasper (bass) and Ade Stokes (drums) brings a punk sensibility to the outfit, while Mark Fieldhouse’s signature snarl is a reminder of just how heavy Freebase used to be.

The re-recordings of ‘Respect’, ‘Sympathy Vote’ and ‘Run Me Down’ have been given a new lease of life courtesy of the new lineup, with the opening lyric of ‘Respect’ summing the situation up best; “Respect to the old school!”

Freebase will be playing the following shows:

June 4th – Damage Control Festival, Brixton, London
June 9th – Download Festival, Castle Donington
July 10th – Dingwalls, Camden, London (with Municipal Waste)

Words: JOHN CONSTERDINE
